Redbone: Legends of the 70s

The Trailblazing Legacy of America's First Native American Rock Band...

Redbone was a Native American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1969. The band was founded by brothers Pat and Lolly Vegas, who were of Yaqui and Shoshone heritage. Redbone was one of the first Native American rock bands to achieve mainstream success in the 1970s.

The band's music was a fusion of rock, funk, R&B, and Native American influences. They are best known for their hit single "Come and Get Your Love," which was released in 1974 and became a chart-topping song. The track reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and has since become a classic of the era. The band's energetic performance of the song was also featured in the popular Marvel film "Guardians of the Galaxy" in 2014, bringing their music to a new generation of listeners.

Redbone's music often celebrated their Native American heritage, and they were pioneers in incorporating indigenous musical elements into mainstream rock and pop music. Some of their other popular songs include "Witch Queen of New Orleans" and "Wovoka."

Over the years, Redbone underwent several lineup changes and released several albums. Despite their success, they remained somewhat underrated compared to other bands of their time. The band dissolved in the late 1970s, but their music continues to be appreciated by fans of diverse musical genres.

"Potlatch" is the fourth studio album by the Native American rock band Redbone, released in 1970. Named after the traditional Native American gift-giving feast, the album is a vibrant musical exploration of the band's heritage and cultural roots. With a diverse blend of rock, blues, and Native American influences, "Potlatch" showcases Redbone's unique sound and musical prowess. The album features a mix of original compositions and covers, each track resonating with a distinctive energy that captures the essence of their heritage. From the soulful ballads to the upbeat, rhythm-driven tracks, "Potlatch" is a testament to Redbone's ability to seamlessly fuse traditional Native American themes with contemporary rock music. The album received critical acclaim for its innovative approach and remains a significant contribution to the legacy of indigenous rock music, embodying the band's spirit of cultural pride and musical creativity.
