Craving an Italian-inspired treat that's ideal for parties or a relaxing evening at home? Whip up this simple Italian Stromboli! It's loaded with tasty deli meats, melted cheese, and a delicious garlic butter finish that's bound to be a hit with everyone.
Ingredients:
1 tube of Pillsbury pizza crust (or similar)
8 slices deli ham
10 slices Genoa salami
12 slices sandwich pepperoni
8 slices provolone cheese or mozzarella (shredded cheese can also be used)
2 tablespoons butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons chopped parsley
3 tablespoons Parmesan cheese
Directions:
Prepare Garlic Butter Mixture:
Melt the butter in the microwave. Mix in minced garlic, chopped parsley, and Parmesan cheese. Set aside.
Preheat and Prep:
Preheat your oven to the temperature recommended on the pizza crust tube. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Prepare the Dough:
Stretch the pizza crust out on the parchment paper to nearly the size of your baking sheet.
Layer Ingredients:
Layer the deli meats on the stretched pizza crust. Start with ham, then salami, followed by pepperoni.
Add Cheese:
Layer slices of provolone or mozzarella cheese (or sprinkle shredded cheese) over the meats.
Roll and Seal:
Roll the Stromboli lengthwise, ensuring the seam is sealed well. Pinch and mold the ends of the dough underneath the Stromboli to seal them.
Prepare for Baking:
Score the top of the Stromboli a few times with a serrated knife to allow steam to escape during baking.
Top with Garlic Butter:
Spread the prepared garlic butter mixture evenly over the top of the Stromboli.
Bake:
Bake the Stromboli in the preheated oven according to the instructions on the pizza crust tube. The bake time will typically be similar to that of a regular pizza crust, but without par-baking.
Serve and Enjoy:
Once baked to a golden brown, remove the Stromboli from the oven. Allow it to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
Serving Tips:
Slice and Serve: Allow the Stromboli to cool for a few minutes after baking before slicing. This helps the cheese to set and prevents the filling from spilling out.
Presentation: Arrange the slices on a serving platter or board for a beautiful presentation. Garnish with fresh parsley or basil leaves for a pop of color.
Dipping Sauces: Serve with marinara sauce, ranch dressing, garlic aioli, or your favorite dipping sauce on the side. These add extra flavor and enhance the dining experience.
Side Dish Options: Pair with a simple green salad dressed with balsamic vinaigrette or a side of roasted vegetables to balance the richness of the Stromboli.
Beverage Pairings: Enjoy with a glass of red wine such as Chianti or a light beer. Alternatively, serve with a refreshing Italian soda or sparkling water with lemon.
Storage Tips:
Refrigeration: Store leftover Stromboli in an airtight container or wrap it tightly in foil. It can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
Reheating: To reheat, place the Stromboli slices on a baking sheet and warm them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes, or until heated through. This helps to retain its crispiness.
Freezing: If you plan to freeze Stromboli, wrap individual slices or the entire Stromboli tightly in foil and place in a freezer-safe bag or container. It can be frozen for up to 2 months.
Thawing and Reheating: Thaw frozen Stromboli overnight in the refrigerator before reheating. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until heated through, ensuring the crust becomes crispy again.
Avoid Microwave: Avoid reheating Stromboli in the microwave as it can make the crust soggy. Opt for the oven for best results.
Keep stirring, keep savoring, and always let your taste buds lead the way!
