The Curated Memory

It’s interesting how our minds tend to filter memories. The bad moments might feel overwhelming when they happen, but over time, our brains often emphasize the good. This could be a survival mechanism, allowing us to hold onto hope and resilience. It’s like our minds are curating a highlight reel, reminding us that even in the worst times, there’s been good worth remembering. Maybe it’s a way of reminding ourselves that life, despite its messiness, is still worth living.

Life has a way of throwing all sorts of challenges our way. We go through heartbreaks, disappointments, and moments where everything seems to fall apart. The bad can feel so overwhelming that it drowns out the good, casting a shadow over our memories.

Yet, when I look back on my life, I find myself remembering the laughter, the small victories, the fleeting moments of joy. The bad stuff? It seems to fade, like the pain of an old scar that you barely notice anymore. Maybe it's the mind's way of protecting us, of keeping us going by highlighting the good and letting the rest slip away.

I think it's a kind of selective memory that helps us survive, reminding us that no matter how much life threw at us, we made it through. It's as if our minds are curators, piecing together a narrative that shows us life is worth living, despite the messiness.

We cling to life, not because it’s always good, but because we choose to remember the moments that made it worth living.

The good memories become a thread, weaving together the story of who we are and why we keep going. In the end, it's not the hardships that define us, but how we remember overcoming them.
