On the inception, Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies drew their storylines from Warner's vast music library. Between 1934 and 1943, Merrie Melodies were produced in color and Looney Tunes in black and white. After 1943, both series were produced in color and became virtually indistinguishable, varying only in their opening theme music and titles.
1942 was one of the golden years of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies . " Any Bonds Today? ", a film commissioned by the U.S. Treasury to convince people to buy war bonds, was released. The Looney Tunes series starts 3-hue color production starting with " The Hep Cat ".
As with its parent series, Looney Tunes, Merrie Melodies featured some of the most famous cartoon characters ever created; including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig .
