Apple Fries

If you're yearning for a snack that's both sweet and crunchy, perfect for any time, you've got to try Apple Fries! Imagine biting into these golden, crispy apple slices dusted with cinnamon sugar and dunking them into a luscious caramel sauce. This treat is a playful twist on autumn's classic flavors, offering a delightful dessert or snack that's both quick to make and irresistibly tasty.

Ingredients:

For the Apple Fries:

  • 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda

  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

For the Caramel Dipping Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions:

Prepare the Apple Fries:

  1. Peel the apples and cut them into thin, fry-like sticks. To prevent browning, place them in a bowl of cold water.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the sparkling water, whisking until the batter is smooth and thick enough to coat the apples. Adjust the consistency with more flour or water if needed.

  3. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. Drain the apple slices and pat them dry with paper towels. Dip each apple slice into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off.

  5. Carefully place the battered apple slices into the hot oil, frying in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry each batch for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the apple fries and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

  6. Coat the Apple Fries. In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. While the apple fries are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.

7. Serve the apple fries warm with caramel dipping sauce on the side for dipping.

Keep stirring, keep savoring, and always let your taste buds lead the way!
