2012 was quite the year of upheaval, wasn't it?
Three states took a leap into the progressive pool by legalizing same-sex marriages, while two others decided to roll up a little more tolerance by legalizing marijuana. It's like the nation collectively shrugged and said, "Why not?"
But amidst all this social evolution, it's hard not to chuckle at the outdated moral compass some still cling to. I mean, if the Bible really insists on stoning a man for laying with another man, perhaps it's time we find a new source for a moral compass.
Because in a world where love is love and a joint is just a joint, it's becoming increasingly clear that some religious teachings might be better off left in the past, where they can collect dust alongside outdated fashion trends and floppy disks.
As the upcoming elections loom large, the lessons of 2012's social revolutions serve as a dire warning against casting ballots for candidates tethered to rigid interpretations of ancient texts, rather than those who embrace the dynamic and inclusive spirit of contemporary society.
