A More Perfect Democracy

The suggestions below would lead to a much better Government. Sadly, none of these items will even come to pass, as they are far too fair and equitable to the people of our country and take power away from the people that run it. Those same people would be the ones to vote on the changes.

No Political Parties, Make Them Illegal → Each politician is his own party, enabling him to make decisions based on his constituency and not beholding to any party leaders.

Eliminate Electoral College → This has always been a farce that takes the popular vote away from the people, enabling a small and select group to decide who becomes President. The people do not elect a President, the electoral college does and they can override the choice of the peoples’ majority if they so choose. Unless something changes, the EC is the primary path Republicans will use to legally (and I use the term loosely), capture the White House in 2024. And… they have a significant backup plan. In the past 50 years, in almost every Presidential election Republicans have won, they lost the popular vote but won in the electoral college only (or more accurately, electors overrode the popular vote, not exactly winning, more like ‘office-hijacking’) see the chart

Term Limits for Congress, Two Terms, Like the President → There are too many old, outdated minds in Congress… too many of the older ones resistant to change. Two terms would refresh Congress with younger minds more in tune with important issues of the day with the willingness to change.

Ban Corporate Contributions to Candidates → The government would give each qualified candidate an equal stipend to qualified candidates to conduct their campaigns. The amount of campaign money would no longer make one more visible than another. They would need to do their best job selling themselves and their platforms to the people to get elected. Presidential Candidate’s Literacy Test & Experience → All Presidential candidates would need to pass a government literacy test to be put on the ballot to ensure they understand Government structure, laws, and protocols. (trump would have failed a test of this kind badly. Immigrants turned citizens know more than he did when he took office… and probably the day he left).

→ All Presidential candidates would need to have at least 4 years of experience in a public office. Right now, anyone can be President. Would a corporation hire a new CEO who knew nothing of their products line or services?

Voting → Five Federal Mandates to States on Elections That Require; A. How many polling places required per capita and where they need to be B. Days and hours people can vote C. Days mail-in voting begins and ends D. Number and locations of remote drop boxes required per jurisdiction base on population E. A new ‘vote-crypto” needs to be created to allow people to vote online. If security can protect a Bitcoin, it can protect a vote. Make Gerrymandering Illegal → Political districts’ borders would be defined geographically and not by blue/red voter counts.

Who Can Vote → Anyone that is registered to vote, can vote, with no restrictions. Local jurisdictions will base qualification on driver’s license, state ID, or birth certificate. One of them would be required to vote.

Supreme Court A. Limit terms limited to three 4-year terms. B. Construct court to be 4 Republican and 4 Democrats with the 9th being selected by the President or voted on within the group.

Congress A. All bills presented by either party to the floor are “one bill, one item”. No pork or the pork gets its own bill. B. Wouldn’t it be nice if voters could decide some of the more important issues of the day instead of leaving it to Congress, who in most cases have ulterior motives. C. Any Congressmen that support insurrection or coup are immediately expelled and charged appropriately. D. Filibuster – Modify as follow… In such cases where a majority in the party proposing the bill exists and less than 10 in the opposing party and an agreement cannot be reached, hold a special election at the National level, let the public decide. Some kind of expedited voting process would be required to speed things along.

After reading Michelle Goldberg's excellent book, Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism, I started thinking about the goals of the Christian nationalist movement.
