If Republicans win back one or both chambers of Congress, the most consequential thing they’ll achieve for Republican voters will be the very act of having won: They’ll have shut the door on Democrats’ legislative ambitions for at least two years.
In this sense, McConnell’s strategy of not previewing an agenda is more honest, because the agenda is to deprive Democrats of the ability to do what they want and “hold the line for two years” until they have another bid at the presidency. It’s a preview of the Republican presidential primary. Win at any cost that is the republican agenda.
I cannot escape the logical conclusions of the actions of the overwhelming majority of elected Republican officials. The Republican Party is no longer interested in democracy. It is no longer a bulwark against authoritarianism. Indeed, it is an enabler of authoritarianism. The Republican Party is no longer an American party, but rather an anti-American party. It is the fifth column, the enemy within and needs to be destroyed if we are to survive as a democracy.
The upcoming elections are not about racism, Russia, abortion, civil rights, it is about saving our country, it about losing our democratic republic.
