The Price of Vindictiveness

by Belle Webb

Oh, vindictive soul, why do you bear such hate?

What caused this venom to consume your fate?

Your heart is dark, and your spirit cold,

Your anger and resentment never seem to fold.

You plot and scheme to cause others pain,

Your words are sharp, like a razor's blade,

Your grudges run deep, your thirst for revenge,

Never sated, never to end.

But what joy do you find in causing strife?

Why do you cling to a bitter life?

Does it make you feel powerful and strong?

Does it make up for the times you felt wronged?

But in the end, your vindictiveness will fail,

For your hatred and anger, you'll surely pale,

For true strength lies in forgiveness and grace,

And in the end, love will always have its place.

So let go of your grudges and seek peace,

For in that, true happiness will increase,

Let go of the bitterness and find a new start,

And heal the wounds that lay within your heart.
