The Pain of Witnessing a Child's Suffering: by Belle
"The pain of a child is a call to action for all of us. We must do everything in our power to alleviate their suffering and protect them from harm." - Desmond Tutu
The pain of seeing a child suffering can be immense for those who experience it. There's a sense of helplessness and despair that can be overwhelming, and it's hard not to imagine what that child must be going through. Today this is especially true of gay and transgender children,
Children are often viewed as innocent and pure, and seeing them in pain or distress can be particularly hard to bear. They are still learning about the world around them and rely on adults to keep them safe and healthy. So, when they are hurt or sick, it's natural for us to feel a deep sense of responsibility and guilt.
"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." - Albert Einstein
The pain of seeing a child suffer can also trigger memories of our own childhood, and we may experience a flood of emotions related to our own past experiences of pain or trauma. We may feel angry or frustrated that we can't protect the child, or we may feel a deep sense of empathy and compassion that can be difficult to contain.
However, despite the pain and sorrow that comes with witnessing a child's suffering, it can also serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of love and compassion. It can inspire us to take action, to help in whatever way we can, whether it's through donations, volunteering, or simply offering emotional support to those who are struggling.
"A child's pain is not just their pain. It is our pain as a society, and it is our responsibility to do everything in our power to ease that pain." - Michelle Obama.
Ultimately, the pain of seeing a child suffer is a testament to the power of our humanity, and our capacity to feel deeply and act with compassion in the face of adversity.

It was 1961, I was 6, when I tried to hang myself... Is the suicide rate higher today, or are we just more aware of the harm we are doing to our children?
