This program features great names in jazz performing in concert at Lincoln Center.
Performances: Ella Fitzgerald sings "Lady Be Good," accompanied by Count Basie and His Band;
Duke Ellington and His Orchestra play "C Jam Blues" and "It Don't Mean a Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing"; Fitzgerald sings "Goody, Goody" and "Body and Soul," accompanied by the Tommy Flanagan Trio.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet plays "Take Five," featuring Paul Desmond on the alto sax; Count Basie and His Band play "Jumpin' at the Woodside" and are joined by Joe Williams, who sings "Alright, Okay, You Win"; and, playing "Avalon," "Moonglow," and "Ding Dong Daddy," are Benny Goodman on clarinet, Gene Krupa on drums, Teddy Wilson on piano, Lionel Hampton on vibes, and George Duvivier on bass.
Doc Severinsen hosts a musical tribute to Louis Armstrong, which features performances of "Sleepy Time Down South," "Blueberry Hill," "Basin Street Blues," "Struttin' With Some Barbecue," "Mack the Knife," and "Hello, Dolly," performed by various combinations of the following musicians: trumpet players Severinsen, Dizzy Gillespie, Bobby Hackett, and Max Kaminsky; Earl Hines on piano, Arvell Shawon on bass, Barney Bigard on clarinet, Tyree Glenn on trombone, Barrett Deems on drums, and Fitzgerald performing vocals. The program concludes with a jam session rendition of "One O'Clock Jump" with Basie and his band, Ellington and his orchestra, Severinsen, Goodman, and others. Includes commercials.
