The series was a continuation of the events of Tremors 3: Back to Perfection, and featured some of the original cast members. If you are a fan of the Tremors franchise, you might remember that there was a short-lived TV series based on the movies that aired in 2003. The series followed the adventures of Burt Gummer, the survivalist and monster hunter who appeared in all the films, and his new partner Tyler Reed (Victor Browne), a former NASCAR driver who moved to Perfection, Nevada. Together, they faced various threats from the Graboids, Shriekers, Ass-Blasters and other creatures that plagued the town.
The series was a fun and faithful continuation of the Tremors universe, with a mix of humor, horror and action. It also expanded the mythology of the creatures and introduced new ones, such as the Mixmaster, a genetically engineered organism that could combine different animal traits. The show also featured guest appearances from other cast members of the movies, such as Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Ariana Richards and Christopher Lloyd.
The main protagonist of the series was Burt Gummer, played by Michael Gross. Gross reprised his role from the movies as the survivalist and monster hunter who lives in Perfection Valley, Nevada. He was joined by his new partner Tyler Reed, played by Victor Browne. Browne was a former soap opera actor who had roles in One Life to Live and The Young and the Restless. He also appeared in episodes of CSI: Miami and Charmed.
Another returning character from the movies was Jodi Chang, played by Lela Lee. Lee took over the role from Susan Chuang, who played Jodi in Tremors 3. Jodi was the owner of Chang's Market, a general store that was founded by her ancestors. She also had a crush on Tyler and often helped him and Burt with their monster problems. Lee is an actress and comedian who has voiced characters in animated shows like Kim Possible and American Dad.
One new character was Nancy Sterngood, played by Marcia Strassman. Nancy was a single mother who ran a pottery business from her home. She had a daughter named Mindy, played by Tinsley Grimes. Mindy was a teenager who had a crush on Tyler and often got into trouble with her friends. Strassman was a veteran actress who had roles in Welcome Back, Kotter, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, and M*A*S*H. Grimes was a young actress who had appeared in episodes of That '70s Show and 7th Heaven.
Another new character was W.D. Twitchell, played by Dean Norris. Twitchell was a government agent who was assigned to monitor the activities in Perfection Valley. He often clashed with Burt and Tyler over their methods of dealing with the monsters. Norris is an acclaimed actor who has starred in Breaking Bad, Under the Dome, and The Big Bang Theory.
Unfortunately, the series was canceled after only 13 episodes due to low ratings and network issues. It was a shame, because the show had a lot of potential and a loyal fan base. Many fans still hope for a revival or a reboot of the series, especially since Michael Gross has expressed his interest in reprising his role as Burt Gummer.
Tremors: The TV Series is a hidden gem that deserves more recognition and appreciation from fans of the franchise and sci-fi/horror lovers in general. It is available on DVD and streaming platforms, so if you haven't seen it yet, give it a try. You won't regret it.
