Taking time to perform routine maintenance tasks and winterize your RV before placing it in storage for the winter will protect your investment and prolong the life of your RV.
Checklist For Winterizing Your RV
Disconnect and remove the battery to prevent exposure to freezing temperatures. Store the battery in a warm place such as your basement over the winter.
Protect the interior from sun damage during storage by covering the windshield and closing curtains and shades.
Wax the exterior to protect it from damage.
Check tire pressure and properly inflate tires to prevent flat spots, weakness or sidewall cracks from developing while your RV sits idle.
Perform routine engine maintenance if your RV is a motorhome (oil change, lube, filter replacement, etc.).
Fill the gas tank to help prevent the formation of condensation in the tank which can lead to corrosion and rust. You may want to consider adding a gas-stabilizing product to your tank, but check your RV owner’s manual and product instructions first.
Drain engine coolant and refill with approved antifreeze. Choose a coolant rated to the lowest anticipated temperature in your area. If you use an undiluted coolant (one not mixed with water) during the summer season, you may only need to top off coolant.
