Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Song Book is a five-volume album by the American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, released in 1959. The album contains 59 songs composed by George and Ira Gershwin, arranged by Nelson Riddle.
It is considered one of the most ambitious and successful projects in Fitzgerald's career, as well as one of the definitive interpretations of the Gershwin songbook. The album was recorded in Los Angeles between January and July 1959, with a 31-piece orchestra conducted by Riddle.
It received critical acclaim and won two Grammy Awards in 1960: Best Vocal Performance, Female and Best Individual Jazz Performance. The Definitive Recording of the Great American Songbook
