One of the most memorable performances of the Jazzwoche Burghausen festival in 2001 was the Dave Brubeck Quartet concert. The legendary pianist and composer, who was 80 years old at the time, delivered a stunning show that showcased his musical genius and versatility. He was accompanied by his longtime collaborators Bobby Militello on saxophone and flute, Michael Moore on bass, and Randy Jones on drums.
The quartet played a mix of Brubeck's classic tunes, such as "Take Five", "Blue Rondo a la Turk", and "In Your Own Sweet Way", as well as some lesser-known gems, such as "Elegy" and "The Duke". They also paid tribute to some of their influences, such as Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, and Paul Desmond. The audience was captivated by the quartet's virtuosity, creativity, and chemistry, and gave them several standing ovations.
The concert was recorded and released as a DVD, and it is widely regarded as one of the best live recordings of Brubeck's career. It is a testament to his enduring legacy as one of the most influential and innovative jazz musicians of all time.
