Pioneers of Progressive Rock
Blending melody, complexity, and hard rock energy.
Argent was a British rock band formed in 1969 by former Zombies keyboardist Rod Argent, blending progressive rock, hard rock, and pop elements.
Best known for their 1972 hit Hold Your Head Up, the band showcased Argent’s virtuosic keyboard work alongside the songwriting talents of bassist Russ Ballard, who penned other notable tracks like God Gave Rock and Roll to You.
Their music often featured intricate arrangements and a mix of heavy riffs with melodic harmonies, appealing to both mainstream and progressive rock audiences.
Though they disbanded in 1976, Argent’s influence can still be heard in the work of later rock bands, and their anthems remain classic rock staples.
