Puffy under eyes are perhaps one of the most common struggles many of us face nowadays. It can be caused by several factors such as genetics, lack of sleep, and dehydration. Aside from these, there are also reports that allergies, trauma-related injuries, and infections play a part in the swelling of your eyes or eyelids. But it's important to understand that having puffy under eyes is not a lost cause. While some remedies include using cool compress and jade rollers to reduce swelling, another method you can consider is applying skincare products and makeup to the affected area.
Here are some tips and recommendations from professional makeup artist Kerri Herlihy.
Before anything else, Herlihy notes, "There are so many reasons why our eyes get puffy. The main cause of puffy under eyes is fluid retention. This could be from a lack of sleep, genetics, allergies, [and even] stress—the list goes on."
According to Herlihy, "There are plenty of 'old school tricks' to help with [eye bags], [with] the most common being a cold compress—or like some of our grandmothers used, cold spoons. (It actually works!) Luckily, there are so many new products on the market that definitely have been known to cut down the puff!"
As for product recommendations, she shares that 'No More Baggage' by Dr. Brandt is a great under eye cream. "I also love the concealer 'Bye Bye Undereye' by It Cosmetics," she tells us. "You need the smallest amount, and [you] should always tap it under your eyes while applying. Combine these two products together and you will notice a huge difference."
Lastly, she says that one of her absolute favorite products for puffiness is the 'Pack Your Bags Face Globe' by Tarte Cosmetics. "It's an eye globe that you keep in your fridge. Once applied under the eyes, and back to your temples, it helps facilitate the blood flow and you will immediately notice a difference!"
